IMPORTANT RESUME TIPS

  • Always include your Name, Address, Phone Numbers and E-mail if available.
  • Use white or a light colored 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper. (Heavy bond is preferred)
  • Use standard typefaces avoiding decretive fonts and shadowing.
  • Use a font size of 10 to 14 points.
  • Avoid vertical and horizontal lines, graphics and boxes.
  • Avoid double column formats.
  • Place your name at the top of the page on a line by itself. (Add professional designations if applicable)
  • Use a standard address format below your name.
  • List your phone number, fax number and email address on lines by themselves.
  • Use boldface and/or all capital letters for section headings.
  • Always describe your experiences with well-defined words rather than vague descriptions.
  • Use enough keywords to define your skills, experiences, education, professional affiliations, activities, etc.
  • Be concise and honest.
  • Use common headings such as: Objective, Experience, Employment, Work, History, Positions Held, Appointments, Skills, Summary, Summary of Qualifications, Accomplishments, Strengths, Education, Affiliations, Professional Affiliations, Certifications, Honors, Personal, References, Etc.
It is important to make sure you have accurate information available before putting your resume into form. Be certain that your dates, names etc. are correct. A resume is your personal blue print and a key component in the process of getting a job.
